The Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) has disputed media allegations that it has granted a 114% pay increase for political, judicial, and public office holders.
In an interview with Leadership, RMAFC Public Relations Officer Christian Nwachukwu stated that President Bola Tinubu has not approved salary increases for public personnel.
Rakiya Tanko-Ayuba, a Federal Commissioner in the Commission, made the comment while representing RMAFC chairman Mohammad Shehu at the presentation of the reports of the revised remuneration package to Kebbi State Governor Nasir Idris on Tuesday June 20 in Birnin Kebbi. Tanko-Ayuba allegedly stated that the implementation of the evaluated salary packages would begin on January 1, 2023, a claim rejected by the Commission’s spokeswoman.
“Not your chairman. That’s not my boss. My chairman has never said anything about it. And I haven’t spoken anything about it. There will be no comment from the chairman and no statement from me. So, I’m not sure. It was said by one of the Commissioners. I don’t want to be mentioned. There hasn’t been any approval yet. There has yet to be permission. I’m not sure where the story came from. Everything is in the works. It must be presented as a Bill for Mr. President’s approval. The President has not granted his approval. When asked if work on the idea had begun in the National Assembly, he stated;
“It will be forwarded to the National Assembly.” Regardless of whether it was sent or not, the President has not signed off on it. All of the legislative procedures must be completed before it can be presented to Mr. President for his signature. That has not been finished.”
When asked if the pay boost story going around is false, Nwachukwu stated, “just take it the way you understand it so that you don’t quote me anyway.”
When asked if the RMAFC had sent the executive bill to the National Assembly for consideration, Nwachukwu merely stated, “everything is under process.”
