Popular TikTok musician, Crown Uzama, five others jailed for internet fraud
Crown Uzama, a popular TikTok musician, and five other people were found guilty before Justice A. A. Isiaka on a separate one-count charge that had elements of criminal impersonation, thanks to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, Kaduna Zonal Command.
The Kaduna Penal Code Law, 2017, Sections 142 (1), 57, and 308 were broken, the commission claimed, and Section 309 of the same Law was applicable to punish the offense.
Uzama, also known as Shalli Popi and Miller Maxwell, was found guilty along with Joel Kator, Bethel Makuochukwu, Abdul-Azeez Suleiman Temidayo, Favour Chidiogo Emmanuel, and John Joseph. Two weeks prior, Makuochukwu had been found guilty of money laundering.
Both of them entered guilty pleas in response to the EFCC’s accusations.
The prosecution’s attorneys, M. E. Eimonye, M. U. Gadaka, M. Arumeni, and K. S. Ogunlade, requested the court to convict the defendants in accordance with this.
The defendants were found guilty and given two years in prison, each with the option of a fine.
The court further ruled that all furniture, electronics, and other property recovered from the offenders must be forfeited to the federal government.
The defendants were detained in many Kaduna locations after the Command got information about them.
Investigations had shown that they had assumed fraudulent identities and impersonated foreign nationals in order to scam their targets.
