John McKenna’s Death: Friends pay tribute to a ‘genuine gent’ who died after falling from an Ibiza hotel balcony.

A player died after falling from a hotel balcony in Ibiza, and his friends remembered him as a “true gent.”

John McKenna, 22, of Carlisle, Cumbria, died following a fall from the third storey at his three-star hotel in the party town of San Antonio yesterday morning.

He was pronounced dead at the spot after paramedics made heroic attempts to revive him after the alarm was raised at around 11 a.m.

Electrician John is thought to have played for Carlisle City Sunday League Premier side Scotby FC while staying at the azuline Hotel Llevant.

Josh Dixon, a friend and former Carlisle United player, expressed his sadness in a social media tribute, saying: ‘Absolutely saddened writing this. Throughout school, he was one of my closest friends.

‘Everywhere you went, you placed a smile on someone’s face. We will all miss you terribly. ‘Take it easy, big man.’

Olly Doyle, another acquaintance, described John, sometimes known as “big John,” as “a true gent and the most genuinely nice lad around.”

‘Never a dull moment, one of the greatest. ‘Take it easy, big man.’

The incident is not currently being investigated as suspicious by police.

Helen Ullyart called his early death as’soul shattering.’

‘Today we lost a legend, a brilliant player but an even better person,’ Scotby FC stated in a tweet late yesterday.

‘Never forgotten, but always loved. ‘Big John, rest in peace.’

According to initial reports, he fell from the fifth floor, however reliable sources say he was on the third floor balcony of a room where he was staying with a friend.

The Civil Guard is leading the probe, which is being managed by a local investigating magistrate.

The person John was with was questioned by police, but there is no indication that the tourist’s death was suspicious.

There has been no update on the circumstances surrounding his demise.

‘This situation is still under investigation,’ a police insider stated in the aftermath of the disaster.
