Gunmen kill RCCG pastor, abduct seven church members in Ogun

Invading gunmen on Saturday killed the pastor and kidnapped seven worshipers at a Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) congregation in Ogun State.

Soji Ganzallo, the commander of the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, verified the incident and claimed that his officers killed one of the kidnappers while rescuing the seven churchgoers.

Ganzallo was reported as adding that the event happened at around 12 am on Saturday, July 1 in a statement provided to DAILY POST by the So-Safe Director of Information and Public Relations, Moruf Yusuf.

According to Ganzallo, “the special operation team of the Corps, Owode-Egba Zonal Command, under ACC Jimoh Rasaki Omoniyi, received a distress call that some of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Desires of Nations Parish, under Ogun Province 22, Abule-Ori in Obafemi Owode Local Government Area, were attacked during a vigil; seven members of the church were kidnapped and the pastor was killed.”

He claimed that the Corps’ officers were instructed to pursue the culprits in order to save the victims unharmed, adding that “the officers swung into action immediately.”

The seven hostages were recovered unharmed, but one of the kidnappers was murdered and many of the suspects suffered critical injuries during a fire exchange, Ganzallo continued. This indicates that the corps’ efforts paid off.

He further stated that the police and So-Safe Corps were pursuing the evading suspect kidnappers in an effort to apprehend them alive.

He observed that the deceased kidnapper’s body had been left at a neighboring mortuary.
