The death of 30-year-old Saifullahi Salisu of Shata, Maikunkele, in Niger State’s Bosso Local Government Area, who allegedly hanged himself, has shocked and confused neighbours.
The deceased allegedly committed suicide due of his inability to repay a N250,000 debt owed to others in the region.
The event occurred on Monday morning, according to the DAILY POST.
According to Shata locals, Salisu’s body was discovered hanging from a rope in his bedroom by his neighbors on Monday.
They said that his body had been buried. He was recognized as a hardworking young man with promise.
His girlfriend, Rebecca Musa, alleged that when she observed the dead was agitated, he informed her that he owed some persons in the region N250,000.
“He told me that those he owed had begun demanding their money, and he couldn’t pay back,” she said. He informed me that the problem was bothering him and that he didn’t know how he was going to pay his bills. I had no idea that would lead to him killing himself.”
DSP Wasiu Abiodun, Public Relations Officer for the Niger State Police Command, verified the development when reached.
He did, however, claim that the body was removed and transferred to the General Hospital mortuary before being returned to the family.
He also confirmed that an investigation is underway to determine the circumstances behind the tragedy.
